Your Side Hustle Idea This Week is Virtual Assistance 💻

If you already feel like this idea isn’t for you just keep reading. You never know what might spark your interest. And if it still isn’t for you after that then don’t worry, there will be a new idea waiting for you next week!

A virtual assistant is someone who provides administrative, technical or creative assistance to clients from the comfort of their own home. It’s a great option if you have children and can only work a few hours a day!

Below are some examples of virtual assistants who make a range of incomes. They set their own salary and work the hours they choose.

On the higher end, virtual assistants could make over 6 figures a year if you choose to scale and expand your skill base.

On the other hand, you could just do this to earn a small amount of extra income. The example above shows a virtual assistant who has made at least $100 (£82.27) at a rate of $20 an hour (£16.45).

Your Simple How-To Guide

(always remember to do your own research if this is something you’re thinking of trying)

  1. Establish Your Skills

Find an area to specialise in. Some good entry-level jobs are data entry, customer support and general admin. Have a look on the platform “Upwork“ for inspiration.

  2. Create Social Media Accounts

A useful step is to create social accounts showing you are a virtual assistant. I’d recommend creating a TikTok page for the best reach, a LinkedIn for your CV and a Facebook page.

  3. Know Your Worth

There is no right answer to your pricing. Have a look at what your competitors are charging for similar work. A good starting rate is £10 an hour for basic jobs but it could be up to £50 an hour for more complex work.

  4. Create an Upwork Account

“Upwork“ is a platform for freelancers to list their skills and find work. The better your profile, the more jobs you will get.

  5. Look For Job Listings

Another good place to find virtual assistant work is on job boards such as “Indeed“. Make sure the job roles are self-employed and flexible.

  6. Expand Your Skills

After you’ve got some work, you can expand your knowledge to more in-demand areas and increase your prices alongside. Some examples are design, accounting and writing.

  7. Look For Recurring Clients

For a more reliable source of income try to make a good impression on your clients and choose a job that needs constant work. This will result in recurring business coming your way!
